Dueling Pain

Has anyone uncovered the secret

To meeting grief face to face?

To accepting that you’ll be in pain

Across many a time and place?

Shall I approach it as a new chapter,

Or a dramatic life change?

How can I know if I am equipped

To battle a pain this strange?

Do I face grief as a warrior

With a mighty blade in hand?

Or as an old friend who wishes not to hurt me

But to trudge together through the sand?

There is a relationship here with pain

That I may not yet comprehend

But whether we duel or reconcile

May it lead me on my way to mend.
