Aquanium

This is my newest watercolor piece, “Aquanium”. It was inspired by the barreleye fish, a fish with a transparent head which allows its internal cranial organs to be visible.

This deep sea organism’s transparent head allows it to absorb more light. Creatures with bizarre attributes like this sure make me contemplate. How did they evolve that way? Why don’t all deep sea organisms develop a characteristic like this? What would it look like if a human being had this trait?

I then took the notion a step further. This painting was formed during a particularly tumultuous day when I struggled to push through my strain and anxiety, as though I was drowning inside of my own head.
